Humility
for Service
October

In his message,
Pastor Nicky Joya explained the importance of humility in our service
to God. Quoting Romans 12:3-5, he described humility as our attitude
or conduct according to the measure of faith given to us by our
forgiving and merciful Lord.
The
humbling truth, Pastor Nicky said, is that we are saved by grace, not
due to our abilities. The same grace saved our brothers and
sisters in Christ.
Humility
is an acknowledgement that everything we have is from God, and
therefore, represents our total dependence on Him. It begins
with yielding to God's will and embracing the role that He has given
us.

A.
The Indispensable Attitude of Humility
3
For by the grace given me I say to everyone of you: Do not think
of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself
with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has
given you.
A
realization that you are who you are simply because of God's grace.
1.
I am saved by grace, not due to my abilities.
2.
My churchmates are saved by grace.
3.
We all belong to Christ's body.
B.
Attitudes That Prevent Service
4
Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members
do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we who
are many form one body, and each members belongs to all the others.
1.
I refuse to serve. Rebellion
2.
I am the most important party of the body. Indispensability
I
Corinthians 12:21: The eye cannot say to the hand. "I don't
need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't
need you!"
3.
I can function without the others. Self-Sufficiency
...and
each member belongs to all the others.
4.
The body will do well without me. False Humility
I
Corinthians 12:15-16: If the foot should say, "Because I am
not a hand, I do not belong to the body", it would not for that
reason cease to be part of the body. And if the ear should say
"Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body", it
would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.
Points
to Ponder
1.
Yield to God's will for you to serve Him by exercising your spiritual
gifts.
2.
Maintain a servant's attitude.
3.
Be willing and prepared to be used and abused as you serve.
