In God's Hand
October 20, 2002
In his message, Pastor Ruel Muje warned against setting our goal in life, without asking the will of God. Quoting James 4:13-17, he explained that many people today have set their eyes on making money, thinking that this would secure their future.
However, this should not be the case since we do not even know what will happen tomorrow. According to Pastor Muje, we should not think that we own our lives or that we control our destinies. For the Lord, our God, is not glorified with our own efforts.
In God's hand, we should not be arrogant because life is so complex, uncertain and short.
"Now listen to you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.' Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes" (James 4:13-14).
"Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth" (Proverbs 27:1).
"...for we were born only yesterday and know nothing, and our days on earth are but a shadow" (Job 8:9).
It is not that it is wrong to plan our life ahead, but we have to seek the will of God and rely on Him. "We can enjoy our lives, but we have to be responsible Christians," Pastor Muje said.
We should always be dependent on God.
"Instead you ought to say, 'If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that.' As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins" (James 4:15-17).
Pastor Muje exhorted the congregation to trust God at all times so that our lives will be fruitful, productive and perfected. "Time and our lives are in the hands of God," he said.

"So
do not worry saying, 'What shall we eat' or 'What shall we wear?'
For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly
Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and
righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry
about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew
6:31-34)
