Is Our Worship
Acceptable to God?
December 29, 2002
In his message, Pastor Nicky Joya asked if God is
pleased with the way we worship Him? Quoting Malachi 1:6-9, he
warned the church against the sin of Israel during the time of the
prophet Malachi - inferior worship.
He said that as God's people, we were saved and
live to worship God in truth and spirit. "All You have made will
praise You, o Lord; Your saints will extol You" (Psalm 145:10).
"Yet a time is coming and has now come when
the true worshippers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth,
for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks" (John
4:23).
What does God deserve in my life? The following
are the ingredients of true worship:
1. In Truth - "God is Spirit, and His
worshipers must worship in Spirit and in truth" (John
4:24). Our zeal to worship God must be based on the truth, as
explained by Paul. "Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to
God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. For I can testify
about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based
on knowledge.
2. Spiritual - "God has poured out His love
into our hearts by the Holy Spirit whom He has given us" (Romans
5:5).
3. Sincerity - Genuiness of heart or the absence
of any other motive but to worship God
4. Recognition of the worth of God - His holiness
and what He has done for us
What Corrupts or Ruins Worship?
1. Ignorance - When we fail to study the Word
2. The Attitude of Human Need-Centered - "But
seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things
will be given to you as well" (Matthew 6:33).
3. Self-edification
4. Ritualism
5. Inferior quality of worship - In singing, praises, prayer, giving,
studying, listening, attitude
6. An attitude of irreverence - When worship becomes secondary to personal needs
7. Disobedience
In closing, Pastor Nicky exhorted the church to
strive to offer ourselves as living sacrifices to God. That is true
worship.
