The Ministry Mandate
February 02, 2003

In his message, Pastor Nicky Joya spoke about the ministry mandate of every Christian.  Citing Matthew 10:5-10, he said that Christians are called to bring glory and honor to God. "We are saved to serve," he said.

A. A Ministry of Gospel Proclamation
7As you go, preach this message: "The kingdom of heaven is near."

1. Get the message right!
2. A message that centers on the Kingly rule of Christ
3. A message that demands submission to Christ's authority.

B. A Ministry of Giving
8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

1. The degree of our generosity is dependent on our understanding of God's generosity on us.
2. Ministry is meeting needs.

C. A Ministry of Faith
9Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; 10take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep.

1. The motive of ministry: to give, not get!
2. The means of ministry: trusting God for His resources.

Personal Reflection
We have been called to a life of ministry.

1. God is the One who calls.
2. Giving is the character of our ministry.
3. Gospel is the center of our ministry.

"Your attitude should be the same as that of Jesus Christ: Who, in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Philippians 2:5-11
