Running the Spiritual Race
March 10, 2003
In his message, our guest speaker, Pastor Art Maclang talked about the spiritual race, which every Christian runs and should run. Quoting Hebrews 12:1-2, he mentioned four analogical principles involved in the race.
1. On your mark - Faith
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses..."
The proper position in a spiritual race, Pastor Art said, is to be grounded on faith. There are people whom we can look up to, people whose faith brought them to the finished line. The same way, we can be assured that with faith alone, no matter how weak our physical body is, we can still finish the race.
2. Get ready - Failures
"...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."
Pastor Art said that we should set aside our failures. We can also turn failures into success by learning what not to do and what to do.
3. Get set - Focus on Jesus
"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith..."
Jesus Christ is the author and perfecter of our faith. Through Him, we can finish the race. In our spiritual walk, we ask for guidance and wisdom from God through prayer.
4. Go - Finished Line
If we finish the race, we will wear the crown of righteousness in Heaven.

Paul: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.".
