Lesson 3: How Can I Have A Right Relationship with God?

"How Can A Man Become Right with God?"
                                                            (Job 9:2b)

Undeniably, this is one of life's greatest questions. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, sex, race, and status, would like to know how to have a right relationship with God.

How about you? Have you ever wondered how one can have a personal relationship with God?

Man's Greatest Hindrance

Rom 3:23; Gal 3:22; 1 John 1:8

The Bible says that all men have sinned. This sin hinders man from having a relationship with God. God is holy, and as such, He cannot have an intimate relationship with sinners. Furthermore, sin has a penalty.

Eph 2:1 _________________________________________________________

Ultimately, the sinner will be forever separated from God in hell.

Matt 25:41, 46____________________________________________________

Sin is often referred to as an action (e.g., murder, stealing). Sin, however, is not merely an action, but primarily man's nature.

According to Mark 7:21-23, where does sin come from?

Man's Proposed Solution

Man proposes to remove sin through the ordinary means (Human effort). Sin, on the other hand, cannot be removed in this manner.

Jer 13:23

Man tries everything to get rid of sin and have a right relationship with God, but to no avail! He has still "come short" (Rom 3:23).

God's Only Remedy

The Bible teaches that since sin is an internal problem, man needs someone to enter inside of him and perform an inner cleansing. For man, this feat is impossible. With God, however, all things are possible (Matt 19:26).

Only one Person can perform this cleansing - Jesus Christ! He is the God incarnate (John 1:14), who came down to earth to die and pay the

penalty of our sins (1 Pet 2:24).

He died, but God resurrected Him from the grave!

1 Pet. 1:3 - What does Christ's resurrection mean?

He now offers this deliverance to anyone who would receive Him as their only Savior and Lord.

John 1:12 _______________________________________________________

Rev 3:20 ________________________________________________________

Is it your desire to receive Jesus Christ by faith? You can do so right now through a prayer of faith, asking Him to come in and perform the cleansing we need.

Suggested prayer:

Lord Jesus, I realize that I am a sinner and have no ability to deliver myself from sin. All I deserve is death. Through Your mercy, however, You have made it possible for me to be saved. I receive You into my life as my only Lord and Savior. I surrender my will to You. Cleanse me from my sin, and create in me a desire to please You. Amen.
